Parallel World Pharmacy

Review of Parallel World Pharmacy

Parallel world pharmacy is an isekai powerfantasy with a focus on healthcare. The setting seems to be renaissance Europe with elements from France, England, the Netherlands, and a religious organisation reminiscent of the papal states. The story is obviously about a person being reincarnated in a parallel world and starting a pharmacy there but the pharmacy takes a back seat for around half the anime while other, mostly healthcare related, events take place. The story was passable but it wasn't too interesting because any time a problem popped up it was solved almost instantly. Almost all of the medical information in the anime seemed accuratewith the only exception I could find being the main character contradicting himself on the feasibility of using Tuberculosis as a biological weapon in one of the later episodes. The anime sticks to its themes, like the split between nobles and commoners, very well.

I wasn't a fan of the interactions between the various characters in this anime. I do not know why but they were just not fun to watch. The main character, blatantly named Farma de Médicis, also has a pretty annoying habit of telling people what things are called. He'll be like "Oh, that's called a Lichtenberg figure". No, it's not called that, this is a parallel world, following the timeline of our world the person who would've named it hasn't been born yet.

Overall this anime feels like a weird compromise between a powerfantasy and running a pharmacy that, instead of committing to one thing, has to compromise and spend half of its time on each of these elements. I'd definitely recommend it if you like both but if you only like one of the elements it's a bit more hit or miss.
