Review of Chainsaw Man
Easy Revenge! For the past 4 days of writing this review, I have been visually satisfied. If you don't know what Chainsaw Man is about, imagine a marvelous mixture of Jujutsu Kaisen and Kimetsu No Yaiba. This anime lacks some things, some requirements which prevented it from being historically registered as a WORK OF ART; a Masterpiece. Some of these fundamentals are important such as the motives of the characters, especially the main character Denji. For a person who grew up on nothing, literally nothing; women and filth won't be your first priority, logically it's money, power, comfort, stability, security, and safety. Now as a devil slayer/hunter, Iunderstand that he has to give up some of these fundamentals like safety, security, and comfort, but this scenario still fails to explain to me why he doesn't care about money or power or other main desires; especially that we say in the first minutes of Ep.1 that he was in huge debt and how he had to sacrifice his organs to compensate that debt. Don't misunderstand me! I loved this anime in many aspects but sometimes you can't just turn your brain off and enjoy the work. So Basically it's Jujutsu Kaisen but more erotic.
For most of the anime, I had mixed feelings about the characters especially when the big thing happened later in the anime, didn't know how to feel, should I feel sad, mad, or hyped? When characters die should I be sad? or will this be normal just like in Shingeki no Kyojin where the human souls are worth nothing against the ultimate purpose which is to slay the demons and provide a safe life for the people? It was actually stated by the author himself, Tatsuki Fujimoto that he doesn't care about the characters and he would rather sacrifice them for the sake of the plot instead of keeping useless characters.
The art style is phenomenal, Unprecedented, and unique, it's what you can say is "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious". A lot of times I feel like I'm watching a live-action show and not an animation. The art style reminds me of an anime called Ajin which was 100% CGI, I can't describe how much I enjoyed the drawing and the style of the characters. The designs of buildings, clothes, devils, and weapons were great. Very well done MAPPA.
The animation too was extraordinary, with movements, fights, shots, body language, blood-shattering and splashing, walking, and car movements. Almost everything was perfect, perfect down to the last-minute detail. It's a loss though to see all of that not supported with a good MC storytelling.
It is hard to provide a bad story containing or revolving around devils/demons, Story about demons? I bought. The plot was good till now, I know nothing about the manga but I can see that the upcoming events are more hype and that what we haven't seen is far more than what we saw.
It's not easy to cast voice actors that fit all or most of the characters perfectly, there is always some important character that doesn't suit its voice actor, then there is Chainsaw Man. They did a really good job casting those voice actors especially and mainly the actor of the Sensei "Teacher" aka Kishibe; Kenjirou Tsuda, who I consider the best voice actor ever.
Ratings:
Story/Plot: 7.5/10. As I said, the idea of demons and devils in your story is an attractive idea and I liked reading the synopsis of the anime. The author excelled in providing and creating this story and I liked how creative and yet basic it is, but still not convinced of the MC's Intentions, and I hope it improves in the upcoming parts.
Animation and Art-style: 9.5/10. Perfect, just perfect. I am lost in words, trying to describe my joy with this animation.
Characters Major: 7/10. Not a fan right now of the main characters Denji and Power while Aki was the best, and I still think they have to improve.
Characters Minor: 8.5/10. I liked most of them and the author provided some good characteristics in some of them, I also liked the diversity in presenting these characters and providing them with good reasons why they joined the Public Safety Bureau.
Music: 8.5/10. The Music was on point, the opening is catchy, the OSTs and themes were amazing, and the endings were FABULOUS especially ED #9. The idea of having an ending theme song for each episode is amazing and should be implemented more.
Fight scenes: 9/10. I enjoyed all the fights in this anime and that was due to the great animation.
Enjoyment: 9.5/10. I don't remember having a moment of boredom or a moment of discomfort while watching it. I've been enjoying this anime with all my senses. Art, Animation, Music, everything was WOW.
Overall: 8.5/10. Very good - Great
