Aria the Crepuscolo · review

Aria is back, and Neo Venezia has never looked better. While the series ended on a high note in 2008, these "epilogues" have been such a treat to Aria fans. There's always the concern that a sequel years after the finale might lose the magic Aria had, but this really holds its own. The main plot of Crepuscolo is pretty low stakes (when isn't Aria?) but very fulfilling. This time the focus was on Alice and Athena's relationship, with Anya as the mediator. The movie struck the right balance between the 3 generations of undines, with not too much focus on the newbies. Would like to highlightthat the scene with Athena, Alice and the Soap Bubble Kingdom gave me the same sparks of warmth that many episodes of the anime gave me, and reminded me why I loved Aria so much.

The music, while recycled, is stellar as always. There's a change in the animation studio, and while the character designs definitely look different, it's not jarring and I quite like them. The art is beautiful and crisp, and Neo Venezia looks gorgeous in the fall time.

Highly recommend this for all Aria fans.
