The beauty of Liz and the Blue Bird is how small it is. It isn’t a movie of grand proportions like Your Name. We’re trapped with Nozomi and Mizore within the confines of their high school, barred from entering the outside world with them to attend the festival or the pool. It’s nothing more than a brief look into a relationship between two girls as their time together in high school comes to an end. We watch as the two girls play a game of tug of war, neither wanting to let go of one another. It's suffocating. Liz and the Blue Bird is abeautiful story of self-discovery, identity, and what it takes to let go of what you love.
