Review of Devilman: Crybaby
✪ Genre: action, dark fantasy(demons), seinen (nudity, violence) with elements of comedy and romance ✔Positive Aspects✔ ◧ Pretty cool animation: highly saturated, highly vibrant colors, very stylish gore elements, very interesting action scenes. ◧ Pretty cool soundtrack ranging from ambient and hard electronic music to monotones and hip hop. ◧ Decent character development with most characters' intentions, emotions, beliefs and thought processes being depicted in a very clear manner.✘Negative Aspects✘
◧ Conceptually very interesting but did not really do much with it. The series's genre was oscillating between dark fantasy, horror, angst, ecchi, comedy, and even dementia.
◧ The animation was too cartoonish for a dark fantasy series - it did not convey effectively the horror and mystery elements.
◧ The series did not do a good job in developing the antagonistic character: up until the very last episode, there weren't any hints as to who the actual antagonist was, let alone any specific aspects of his/her personality.
◧ This plotline was not developed adequately within 10 episodes - it felt rushed, muddled, and silly.
Overall: This series had some potential, but the end result was all over the place.
