Review of Don't Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro
Nagatoro is totally a fun, amusing and whimsical anime worth watching. Like most shows with a premise, it's starts a little heavy handed but slowly morphs into an undeniably cute, funny dynamic between the leads and gets better as they add some side chatacyers. The chemistry works and the original VA's are so good I didn't even bother trying the dubs. "Senpai" being heard from Nagatoro is clearly iconic. The pacing is perfect as the MC slowly creeps a little out of his shell episode by episode. Nagatoro is a bundle of energy who although initially comes on abit strong, becomes charming and lovable more and more. The friends, although one dimensional, still add a level of humor as they are perfectly inserted in whatever path or scene the show needs. I'm normally not a a fan of such a wimpy MC but he comes across honest and you can tell he is like a flower pot tossed into a tornado and forced to try to stay afloat.
I'm no expert in art but I find the animation and style are pleasant to the eye and generally works well, especially with Nagatoros facial features. The MC lacks detail sometimes but as long as the story and the characters immerse me, that kind of stuff doesn't bother me. I also found myself chuckling and saying "senpai" out loud when no one was looking.
Season 2 is even better than the 1st.
I'm actually perturbed there hasn't been a season 3 and this has definitely been added to the catch up with the manga list.
Not sure if the negative folks were stuffed in lockers as kids or are snowflakes but .. seriously, they act like the MC was murdered and dismembered with their overzealous whining of bullying. Boy, sure must be terrible to be the center of attention of a lovely girl who is learning her way of showing affection.
