Review of Suzume
Let me just say, #JusticeForDaijin 🥲 But if that doesn't say enough, here's a proper review: (Positives) + Lives up to the typical standard expectations of a comix wave film production (amazing visuals, animation, music), if you were looking for something similar to Kimi no na wa (Your Name) or Weathering with you, this is it. + This film got jokes. It definitely ranks as the funniest out of the three + ikemen (Negatives) - Plot is boring and cheesy. It's very repetitive and has no clear direction. Can't tell whether I could even call it a coming-of-age or romance movie. I'd say it's a movie that involves those themes, but they'renot nearly developed enough. In the end it's just a project meant to showcase the visual directing and thus involves lazy scriptwriting.
- RADWIMPS makes such bomb music that they used to promote this movie SO much but I don't remember a single scene that allows length for even the chorus to play fully and impactfully. They could've done so much with this song to pull emotion.. seriously a missed opportunity.
- Characters have no depth. Suzume can be so annoying and unreasonable sometimes, it makes it hard for the audience to empathize with her.
- ***SLIGHT SPOILER*** Daijin didn't get the ending he/she deserved. I wish this movie was called Daijin instead of Suzume.
