I just can't pass by this anime without leaving an opinion about it, and it's because of the extreme hype which I genuinely don't understand. I haven't read the manga, so i don't know what it is like, but I think the basic story had every potential to be an outstanding one. It would have been able to bring something new by not being the usual cliché innocent shoujo anime. Even the story seemed interesting. The first slap for me (though i'm not an M haha) was when it revealed that they don't have a hidden self actually. I mean okay Miyamura has piercings and tattoos, andHori helps out her mother in everything, but their behaviours weren't different from their everyday school behaviours. So what was the thing exactly which made them so connected in the first place? I still don't get it. But okay, move on, it still can be good.

In the middle of the anime it revealed that Hori has a kink and she is trying to force that sadist attitude on Miyamura, which he evidently doesn't fancy. But Hori doesn't recognize that (or just doesn't care), and Miyamura behaves like a good henpecked boyfriend and do anything what Hori says him to do (it's not just with that s-m thing, remember about the horror movies). Still it wouldn't be a problem at all, if they didn't make fun of this whole thing, and if it had a more serious tone. Cause guys, their relationship is extremely toxic! (Of course it is, cause both of them are unhealthy). Where is it normal to forbid your boyfriend to meet other guys? And where is it normal to comply to all your girlfriend 'orders'? These are real problems, they exist, but the problem is that Horimiya makes them look pretty normal, and even funny. I think it can be really dangerous to youngsters (boomer card played lol), cause they may not realize that, as i've just seen it from the earlier comments.

Otherwise the anime is pretty boring. Most scenes don't serve any goal, they are just there, and most of them are unnecessarily lengthened. It was episodical, almost every problem was solved within 1 or 2 episodes. Like when Miyamura and his former bully met again and after 1 or 2 episodes they'd become friends (!!) cause why not? After that we haven't heard from that guy anymore (except some seconds in the xmas episode).

The characters are barely memorable 2d ones and their conversations are so unnatural, average high school students don't speak like that. I had a little hope when the annoying green head's story started, it seemed he was hidding much more things than Hori and Miyamura together, but finally we got no explanation why he behaves so differently at home. Or at school. Whatever.
Relationships weren't showed well either, they didn't have any depth. Hori and her father's relp was the biggest wtf for me, and it wasn't funny at all. Most friendships were also really shallow. For example when Yuki hadn't been going to school and picking up her phone for days, Hori didn't give a shit about her. She was so occupied with her love life, that she couldn't even be worried about her best friend. Or when the core group treated recently known characters if they were their best buddies (if they weren't recently known, we still didn't see the development).

The wonderful drawing is the only thing which could set the anime up a little bit for me, but unfortunatelly, it couldn't save it.

I still could say a lot of things, but I roughly said my main thoughts.
To sum it up, I think the biggest problem with Horimiya was that they tried to make it so funny (though it was not succeeded), that they forgot to give it a depth.
