Review of Redo of Healer
It is with heavy heart i come to do my part and give this anime the rating it needs but not the one it deserves. As a rock solid edgelord myself i was euphoric watching this show, but for those of us that never grow out of our edgyness, the edge becomes a refined taste, and Redo of Healer while at times delivers, it certainly could've done better. The problem is when edgyness becomes a writer's crutch for compelling writing, sometimes the writer himself(presumably) has their own darkness to draw from therefore making their work compelling in that sense, however as this series went on it becameabundantly clear that whoever was behind this was getting out of their depth, and shock value can only get you so far. I used to wonder why we don't really see sh*t get real, even with this Dahmer show on Netflix, they went pretty softcore, i expected an extended mind-break scene with the drill but nothing. I know that i sound deranged to anyone even slightly normal reading this but let's just say we all like different things and move on. Honestly I've seen more intricate sexual mind-break stuff from full on hentai like in Ijirare Fukushuu Saimin which i highly recommend. This anime's biggest flaw is the protagonist having a general "cheatmode"-type ability which is highly flexible and is used as a substitute for writing any creative, intelligent or spicy solutions to his challenges. This type of writing works for hentai since they're limited in run-time and the studios are unsure as to how many episodes they'll put out but since this is from an LN you'd think the writer would put a bit more elbow grease in. Honestly i just hope this LN was selected by chance for adaptation since there are certainly many great edgy works waiting to be adapted, i assume it is just the anime industry playing it safe and picking this up due to its genre allowing them to market it as "hero isekai but edgy 18+" that's really why i give it this score since even half-way decent edgy anime are so hard to come by and sometimes we just gotta do what we gotta do for the industry to feel more comfortable to give this genre more chances.
P.S.: saw a 60fps version made using AI and honestly it still deserves a 8/10 just for the sex scenes, someone needs to make a supercut that includes everything, but also make it flow well, the ones online are very mid and there's 40-50mins of quality material to get going for the cultured folk. Might make it myself if i have to.
