Story: 1/10 So, we have a 48 episode anime revolving around cardfights yet guess what, no real drawn out cardfights take place. Only canned SOL antics. What were they thinking? Characters: 2/10 What characters? For the lead we have a Gary Stu MC that always wins (never shown though), a girl and generic posh guy. Supporting cast comprises a couple of aged up characters from OG and some joke characters. Basically nobody is developed so who cares. The villains are a hollow Team Asteroid expy. In G I can tell they tried to switch to a more genki shonen MC compared to the original series which had awimpy twink MC but it doesn’t work. Naoki from original did it way better, for one he had natural progression through shown cardfights whereas Chrono’s skill is mostly developed offscreen thanks to G’s baffling direction leading to his future winsteaks coming off as completely unearned. Moreover Chrono becomes a typical Gary Stu who’s never really challenged and wins all his fights outside of low stakes matches (this continues onto future seasons) which compared to Aichi who often lost important matches (bringing in mad tension and hype), had to hard earn his skill and faced inner conflicts yeah he just doesn’t measure up at all. Any personality type can work, what matters is the execution and development. I wouldn't even say Chrono's surface level personality is unlikeable, it's just the Gary Stu treatment (+ his hideous haircut) that ruins him.

Sound & Production Values: 4/10

They got rid of Negishi and sadly the new composer sucks. Production values are as bad as OG.

Overall: 1/10

When you think about it, Cardfight!! Vanguard G is a special type of bad. Kodomo/franchise series generally don’t have good writing to begin with as they’re mostly just dumb shows aimed at kids to sell crap. Yet even then Cardfight!! Vanguard G’s writing is terrible even by kodomo standards and on top of that it most importantly fails to even show any cardfights! Now imagine this series is 48 episodes long; 48 episodes worth of pure dogshit, whereas most notoriously awful series on this level are at least short. Heck, said series at least try to do what they set out to do; Mars of Destruction, Garzey's Wing and Skelter Heaven have some awful action and unintentional comedy value, meanwhile what does G even have? Insufferable paper thin characters hanging out and wasting time for hours upon hours? Just how did they mess up this badly? I can only assume since the director and series producer changed for G they didn’t bother learning what the franchise was about, hence why G did essentially everything wrong. But who knows.
