Iketeru Futari · review
I won't retell the synopsis. Instead, I'll focus on what to expect and share my personal opinion. I'll start with the negatives and then move on to the positives. This review covers the first 60 chapters. Cons: Stagnation and degradation of the romance The romantic development mostly happens in the first half of the manga, especially in the first 11 chapters, which I consider the best. The chemistry between the characters feels real, and there are some beautiful and intimate moments. However, after that, the progression not only stops but even regresses. Sometimes it feels like it's going backwards. Intimate scenes nearly disappear, and it seems like the authordeliberately skips over them, which becomes frustrating.
Absurd dramatic episodes
In the second half, there are scenes involving kidnappings, threats of rape, and physical violence against the female lead. Even though these parts take up no more than five pages out of the entire manga, they are so out of place and ridiculous that they ruin the mood. For example, grown men groping the heroine or street thugs slashing her cheek with a knife looks cartoonish and unconvincing. One scene has her being kidnapped in the middle of a crowded store, and no one even notices.
I don’t know what the rules are in Japan, but it seems like schoolgirls shouldn't go outside without a weapon. Seriously.
Weakening of the characters in the second half
The male lead gradually loses his charm. In the beginning, his over-the-top persistence felt like he was madly in love, which gave him some appeal. But later, it just seems like he's lost his mind, and that hits differently. The female lead also almost stops responding to him emotionally. That romantic tension and sweetness from the early chapters just fades away a bit. It feels like the author chose to stretch the story out instead of letting the relationship evolve naturally.
Pros:
Easy to read and surprisingly addictive
Despite all the flaws, the manga is very easy to read and surprisingly engaging. I found myself completely hooked. Maybe it’s the fanservice or the intimate scenes, but they’re all done tastefully and are visually appealing.
Likeable characters
Most characters are pleasant and don’t get annoying. The exception is the male lead in the second half, who starts to slow the plot down with his indecision. Still, the overall vibe remains light and positive.
Fanservice and overall atmosphere
There’s a lot of fanservice, including nudity, but it's handled with style. Compared to the anime, the manga offers more adult moments, more detail, and just more content in general.
Conclusion:
I recommend this manga to those who enjoyed the anime. However, it's important to understand that the manga and anime are two very different experiences.
The manga draws more criticism, but it also delivers more in terms of content.
The first 11 chapters are a must-read. I recommend them to everyone.
Up to chapter 30 is worth reading if you’re eager for more and can accept a dip in quality.
After that, only continue if you're fully invested and ready to overlook the sillier scenes and the lack of progression.
All in all, Iketeru Futari is an addictive and memorable manga.
If you don't take it too seriously, then in my opinion, it’s one of the best in its genre.
