Ourouden · review

A sequel wasn’t really needed. Ourou, being what it is—a short, interesting alt-history take on the Mongolian Empire—wrapped up decently enough. The story wasn't focused on delving into the technical details of the time travel elements, and the main character, Iba, had already overcome all his challenges. Ourouden just continues the story without any sense of tension for two chapters, until it introduces a surprising, one-dimensional villain to build up some sort of conclusion. The character of Kublai gets a lot more screen time but isn’t all that interesting, as his unwillingness to fight is resolved in just a few pages. The art by Miura is, asalways, great, but it feels a bit wasted on this story. As a Miura fanboy, it’s definitely worth the read since it's short, but don’t expect a gripping narrative.
