Review of The Rising of the Shield Hero
After skimming through a few other reviews here, the general opinion seems to be a bit Marmite - you either love it or you hate it. So the MC - Naofumi - gets taken to another world after opening up a book. After being declared one of the 4 Heroes, he is subsequently cast down after being falsely accused of a grievous misdemeanor. From there, he then does everything he can do rise above it and be that which he has been brought forth for. As a fantasy romp, it melds the modern head-up display from any modern game system you care to mention with aworld needing heroes to protect it from destruction. Cue leveling and item enhancement all over.
Did I enjoy it? Yes, very much. Could it be improved? Well, other 3 heroes began to grate on my nerves a bit towards the end. And the CGI used it places is quite glaring too (you'll see it the boss fights).
But again it's all down to perspective. If you like isekai and what its stories are grounded in, then this is for you. If not, then I'm pretty sure that there are many other series that will entertain.
