Review of Astra Lost in Space
If how to completely was your time is an anime then Kanata no Astra is the perfect example. The story is decent. First of all it had such a great start to an anime, interesting story buildup, they get stuck on this ship, then they somehow found a way to help him and with effort as well. That sequence in the first episode was really awesome and it really set the tone for the whole show. Then they realized something wrong with the exploration and things go badly wrong. Their friendship was put to the test and mystery uncover. That's the premise. Art is nothing special butdefinitely a 7 for me. Animation in this anime is not a big deal and didn't really even bother me since I was really immersed with the plot..
Characters were great, each of them had several stories of why and how they ended up in the ship. Each character also had good development in the story and each episode really highlighted their emotions that you could actually feel it. They all felt real if that's the term.
Now for the real deal, my enjoyment. Now that is something that didn't last for long. The moment the story started straying away from the survival aspect of the show, I knew that the anime was turning down a notch. If you actually pay attention to the show, the crew didn't really had that much of a danger. Going through planets was a breeze and they felt more hostile towards trust which made me more confused because they literally provided the best character development in the first episode all to be shattered by confusing writing and unnecessary plot development.
Speaking of plot development, the first thing that this anime suffers is the randomness of the plot. The moment that they literally pulled an out of pocket deus ex machina to the show it just made me lose patience in the show.
The very best example of that is when they got crash landed on this planet, their ship got wrecked then only to get plot convenient with an appearance of another ship that appears to actually still can get to work. How convenient! What's more is inside the ship is a woman, a not so special woman who the anime forget that she exist and made her for the sole purpose of explaining the PLOT TWIST deus ex machina explains to our mcs that the world is special and our main characters are special. Everyone is special and I'm not kidding. Literally they were actually from another planet besides Earth. Which the people forget because of a plot convenient device that was also explained by the author.. I mean the woman. I can't fathom you how this woman is the omnipotent being of this anime I swear.
There was also another plot twist where one of crew was the imposter was actually from a nation that practices medieval culture and actually lived on medieval building like what. The moment they pulled that the author really thought I'd be shocked to hear a reveal that literally made no sense. All to make the plot advance for real. Like these 3-5 billion people really accepted to a culture and religion so quickly just because someone said so is so uncreative writing. That's what this show suffers man. The author kept pulling half-hearted plot that we're supposed to believe makes sense just because it's what the autthor believes and thought. It would work if it connected somehow but it's literally just random.
Overall, I can't believe this show is 8.12 in MAL while Dorohedoro, an anime that deserves a season 2 right now with how expandable its world is currently at 8.08. I can't believe it.
