Review of Terra Formars
Terra Formars is about humans finding a cure for an alien virus on Mars occupied by cockroaches. That's the basic plot of it. The anime itself shows very few things that led up to the present situation and has even fewer episodes where the plot could be seen moving forward. Let's start with the plot of the anime. For once I thought it had some great potential that was wasted completely over useless character development that has nothing to do with the plot or the anime. They wasted one too many episodes on subplot romance and making emotional connections rather than explaining the storya bit more accurately and detailed. The anime also had many unexplained things and certain visible plot holes making it look really bad. The art was not very satisfactory and the animation was basic and fine.
Alright, here I will dig deep into the matters that I mentioned earlier. The plot was very slow-moving because of unneeded romance that took much of the time and didn't have any actual impact on the plot of the story as they wanted it to be. Side characters were made just to fill places and had no value to them. They just randomly did something to help the main characters not only that but the main characters themselves were far empty and barely had any development. The writing was in a scramble and talking about dialogues they were forgetful.
Now talking about the plot itself the humans are trying to take humanoid cockroaches alive for sampling and finding a cure for the deadly alien virus. Before going to Mars they do a special operation that gives them abilities—I won't tell how as it will be sort of a spoiler. The plot hole and unexplained things that I was talking about are related to that operation. The sources of some characters shouldn't be adaptable on Mars. Only cockroaches are known in the anime that can adapt to such a harsh environment. They change the format of the Operation without giving much thought and leaving it unexplained and using such ambiguous concepts to make powers that would help the plot and instead of making the plot good they just made holes in it.
I for myself didn't like the art; it looked too primitive and lazily drawn. The faces were not parred with animes of the time and the animation also lacked enthusiasm and prominence.
I would say the anime had great potential if it was made with better direction and most importantly with better writing but as it is now I do not recommend it to anyone as it is just another lost potential.
