SuperStar 2 · review
Super Star Season 2 is at its best when it is pure goofy comedy, e.g., with the gender bender dynamics. It is passable, sometimes good, when we see characters working hard to overcome challenges. It becomes nearly unwatchable when its cartoonish (lol) villains are part of the plot. I'd recommend this for people who expect to like this kind of story. It's not my favorite, but I still overall enjoyed the donghua and I'm glad I picked it. Animation quality varied. The villains are portrayed as magnanimously powerful, a huge corporation with access to lots of resources, but at the same time they never seem to doanything right, which is good for them, I guess, since so often their goals seem to run counter to their own interests. They come across as a poorly written plot device, which subtracts from an otherwise enjoyable comedy.
Caveats:
+ I'm watching this partly to learn Mandarin, pausing a lot and looking up tons of words on the dictionary,
+ I did not watch season 1, though I plan to since I liked season 2 and think it'll be good for learning.
+ I'm still finishing episode 13.
