Becoming the Monarch · review
Becoming the Monarch" tells the story of a low-rank soldier who’s given a second chance to climb the ranks and seize power — and it delivers a surprisingly gripping ride. While the premise isn't groundbreaking, the pacing and execution make it stand out. The world-building and political intrigue add depth, and the story builds momentum well, keeping you invested. The character development, especially for the protagonist, is decent. He starts off driven by vengeance, but gradually grows into a leader worthy of the title "monarch." Some side characters are memorable, though many stick to familiar archetypes. Emotional moments could’ve hit harder, but the journey remains engaging. Theart is solid — nothing extraordinary, but it gets the job done. Action scenes are clear, and designs are distinct enough to follow the cast without confusion. It may lack flair at times, but it complements the story effectively.
Overall, it’s an enjoyable manhwa with good pacing, satisfying progression, and a protagonist you’ll want to root for. Not perfect, but definitely worth the read for fans of power-fantasy and revenge arcs.
