Review of Akira
I don't think I "got" this film. It's incredibly creative and reality warping, but it didn't translate to me enjoying it much. The characters weren't developed in a way I found satisfying, by the end I didn't really care about them. But besides the story I think the rest of it holds up well. The animation/art is good, it gets a bit gross to me at the end but this is intentional. The sound is actually quite incredible. I listened to the dub and it sounded very 1980s, but it was charming and added to the experience. Makes me want to watch some more 1980smovies.
However, without a story I care about and some off-putting animation (not bad on a technical level I just found some of it gross to me personally) stopped me from truly enjoying this film. It's an important anime film, I think it's Kanye West's favourite anime movie above Spirited Away, and it's probably worth a watch. Judging from the average rating I believe you'll enjoy it a lot more than I did. But honestly it's about a 6/10 in my eyes, but I respect it for what it is.
