Review of Neon Genesis Evangelion
Revisiting Evangelion has been a really introspective experience to me, I've come to interpret this show more as a cinematic piece about how we hurt ourselves over and over in order to feel accepted and loved rather than just another giant robot anime. Characters like Shinji and Asuka always make me reflect on themes such as peer pressure, impostor syndrome and the infamous Hedgehog Dilemma, making this experience way more relatable to viewers (including me). I have been struggling a lot with a constant mentality that I am "just not good enough", an anxious and grueling sensation accompanied by this lack of self-confidence that just makeseverything worse. After I watched EVA and see all of those characters struggle the same way I sometimes do, I started to love this series and see this as a perfect representation of our human need to feel belonged regardless of how much we put ourselves through pain and toxic mindsets.
In the end, if you want to dive deep into your own emotions, try to understand them and begin your own journey towards self-love and improvement, Neon Genesis Evangelion can be a great partener, as you obsreve the main cast go through their own journeys inside their own heads and learn to accept themselves the same way you also deserve to be loved.
