Review of Sword Art Online
Such good concept, such poor execution. It's an interesting premise that could be explored so well, but it falls flat, with the world basically boiling down to "these people live in a fantasy world". It's also a narrative disaster, with random pacing and characters and concepts that are introduced only to never touched on again, all of which is amplified in the second arc. The main character is easily one of the most insufferable I've ever had the misfortune of laying my eyes upon. He is the reincarnation of a grade schooler's Sonic OC. There are a whole bunch of small things in this showthat are painful. If this show has anything going for it, it has a high budget, meaning it's fine enough to look at and listen to.
I do have to truly compliment SAO on one thing though. It is by far the most polarizing show. I find it to be absolutely disgusting, but I've heard many say it's one of their favorite anime of all time. So, while I think SAO is the anime equivalent of a used diaper baking on a July street, you might like it.
