Review of School Days
This is without a doubt the most traumatic, twisted, horrific anime I've seen, but it is damn good. You're probably wondering how it gets a 5 enjoyment and is still good? Simple, it's a show that accomplished what it set out to do and that's show that not all romances have happy endings and executes it well. No one is supposed to enjoy watching this, you're supposed to sit in on your couch and say out loud many times, "Oh my goodness, did that just happen." It does an amazing job of portraying the other side of high school romance, the side that doesn't involvefriendly rivals and competing to see who makes the best lunch. It deals with the lying, the cheating, the sex, and the immaturity of some people and that is what I absolutely love about it, the hardcore truth. It's the side no one wants to talk about, but everyone knows exist.
The characters, as twisted as they may seem, are actually believable. By that I mean they aren't totally outrageous and react like how that person should react in the circumstances, except the last episode it gets a little crazy, but even then its still possible. And so you know, at the end you will look back and realize that you hate every single one of them and don't feel any true sorrow for them. Also, just so you know, Makoto Itou is the most unlikeable character of them all and of all time period no contest, but he doesn't kill the anime he actually fuels it and is what makes this show go. No other type of character could fill his shoes.
Art and sound don't ever affect my watching of a show, but i will say the animation is very easy on the eyes; not amazing but certainly alright. The OP contradicts the show with its happy and upbeat tone, which I'm sure they intended. And the ED's are much more suited songs because they're sad sounding and slow. And i can't say if they're good songs or not because as an American who am i to judge if a foreign song is good or not.
I can't say that i recommend the show because it's not for everyone. But, if you're mature enough to not giggle and ogle at the sex scenes and want a good dose of realness then watch it all the way through.
