Well, I don't know how to start this review, since there's so much I want to tell you about this masterpiece that is "Shiki". I started watching this anime only because I was watching a random video at YouTube, in which Shimizu Megumi appeared as an interesting character. I had no expectations in the show, and I hadn't seen the anime genre, nor anything about the anime except for Shimizu Megumi. At the beginning of the show, I noticed how immersive was the atmosphere of this anime. There was some "La la la" song going on, and a creepy situation right from the start, and thenthe intro entered in such a fashion that I couldn't even describe it... it was like the intro was a part of the show, bringing forth all the emotions that would eventually come later in the story.
Even as the story was a little creepy, one could think it would develop into a romance between Megumi and a certain boy that had moved into the same village as her, but then, suddenly, everything goes beyond expectations; the romance gets buried just by the first tragedy that happens in the anime, and it can be really frustrating at the time. Since this tragedy, the anime kept getting more and more creepy and mysterious; the art style that once seemed to be off for some reason, now matched the show thoroughly; the soundtrack perfectly matches every situation, with long violin's notes, accompanied by soft piano notes and a wonderful choir, expressing sadness, sorrow and despair, but also something more, like a tiny ray of hope...
Alongside the mysterious plot, presented with awesome soundtrack and art styles, the show develops various subplots, each with its own peculiarities and mysteries, which would, in the end, contribute to the spectator's view of the show, it's real purpose and lesson.
It's a wonderful show for this age, when we are concerned about discrimination and equal rights for everyone, since there's a wonderfull approach to these matters in this masterpiece that is "Shiki".
