One of my favorite anime movies! I’m already a big fan of Rumiko Takahashi’s works, so I always love a good adaptation! The story itself is as classic Rumiko tale, an unknown fiancé that was promised to one of the main characters in the past comes back and tries to take them. In this case it’s Rupa, the ruler of the land of darkness! Regarding the new characters, I love them! Rupa is a determined character who wants to take Lum with back to the world of darkness with him, but has difficulties because of her temper, Ataru, and classmates, but even he is outshined by Carla,his childhood friend that’s extremely angry he’s going after someone else when he said he loved her when they were kids! They’re both similar to the main two and I love watching them interact with each other :)

The animation is wonderful and I like the style that was used. I actually have an animation cel of Carla in her wedding dress! The backgrounds, such as in the pool in the world of darkness, are beautiful, I wish I had one in my collection! The music is perfect for the drama and the voice actors do an AMAZING job voicing the characters!

Spoilers ahead:
I really like how the story circled back to the original tag game in the first episode, a great way to show the differences between the scenarios, as well as how stubborn Ataru is. And I like the fact that you can understand Lum’s pain from the fact that Ataru can’t bring himself to say he loves her, even when his memory of her is at stake. (Which is why I think it’s funny when people say Lum is a tsundere when it’s the complete opposite lol) and of course the ending is wonderful(art wise too!) and shows the true care that Ataru and Lum have for each other, even though Ataru may not express it in a normal way.

My absolute favorite scene is the wedding crashing and roof scene where everyone fights, and the big fall happens. It’s exhilarating!

Movie 5 is the best UY movie in my opinion, give it a watch!
