Review of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Definitely worth the hype. Here are some pros and cons as to why that is. Pros: - Interesting supernatural element that makes it stand out among other slice-of-life/school anime - The narrating is charming and adds a lot of character that the show otherwise wouldn't have if not for it - Catchiest ending theme I've ever seen - Puts a creative twist on the obligatory "beach episodes" common in this type of anime - Dub is surprisingly good (especially in one episode which I will get to next) - Although the comedy element in this is average, the episode titled "The Adventures of Mikuru Asahina" is probably the funniest episode I'veseen in any anime. The dub on this especially stands out and adds a extra level of snarkiness that you probably wouldn't get in the sub.

Cons:

- Obligatory "School festival episodes" add nothing new, and just seem standard and run-of-the-mill.
- Although she is a well written character, overall, Haruhi has a few especially irritating moments where you wish someone would give her a nice sock on the jaw.
