Dead Rock · review
If you enjoyed Fairy Tail and Edens Zero, you'll probably like Dead Rock too. Mashima remains consistent in his artwork style (and to a degree character design), but with this manga, you can definitely see he is trying new things out with this new genre. The story is about a young demon, Yakuto, who enrolls at an academy for those aspiring to be a Demon King. So far, it doesn't seem like Dead Rock follows the "power of friendship" trope as deeply as Fairy Tail, and seems to focus a bit more on Yakuto's individual journey. It's definitely a different vibe from Mashima's prior works, especiallygiven the dark fantasy genre taking place in the demon world. I have to say that I do enjoy the dark tone and the gore that we really haven't seen from Mashima until now. I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this just yet, but I get the sense that this will be a fun one just because of the brutality and gore in the fights. Story wise...hmm only time will tell, but I think it's worth giving a shot.
