Review of The Aristocrat's Otherworldly Adventure: Serving Gods Who Go Too Far
Reading some of these reviews and seeing people compare this to the likes of Mushoku Tensei - or saying that this is a rip-off of Mushoku Tensei - I mean, come on. I can understand that, for some people, this might be their first isekai, but comparing anything to MT is going to lead to disappointment. Even in the realm of "great isekai" such as 'Reincarnated as a Slime' and 'Overlord', MT stands out as a work of art. Although, if we are being honest with ourselves, EVERY isekai follows the same general premise - they just go about it in different ways. Anyway, let's talkabout this anime 'Adventures of an otherworldly Aristocrat':
For connoisseurs of isekai trash, this is another one to add to the pile, for sure. It follows the same plot as 99% of other anime in the genre, although instead of truck-kun, we have the guy dying to an armed robber, while trying to save a couple of young ladies. Hardly novel by any stretch.
The plot then follows the protag as he gets ridiculously OP, gets a harem and has everyone going "EEEEEHH!?" every time he picks his nose.
It's glorious, generic, isekai trash.
I do have to be honest, but the whole "EEEEH!?" cliché that is ever-present is hammed up to 11 in this series and by the last couple of episodes, it was starting to get annoying.
I understand that this series tries to go for more of a comedic route, but, as I just said, it does eventually get old. Thankfully, most of the characters learn to not be surprised by our protag pretty quickly, but there are a couple of recurring characters that still go full-bore.
What I did appreciate from this series is that it didn't focus on one single thing. Usually the MC is OP in just magic, or just sword-fighting, or just summoning, or whatever 1 particular skill - whereas here, he's OP in everything and it is explained canonically, with him needing to be OP to fend off the threat of a God-like entity at some point. There's also several episodes where the MC goes through a harsh training regimen, which further explains why he's so powerful in the later episodes.
They also do give some reasons, albeit a little barebones, as to why he ends up with a harem (although, in S1 it consists of 3 ladies); This isn't as ecchi harem isekai trash as the likes of isekai smartphone, not by a long-shot.
Personally speaking, I did actually enjoy this series. Yes, it was yet another power-fantasy isekai trash series, but I enjoyed this far more than the more recent 'Classroom for Heroes', which was just so mediocre I can barely remember anything about it already.
The characters here are all fleshed out enough, even some of the later additions and, outside of the "nitpick" I raised earlier, there wasn't a moment where I thought "god, I should just drop this show".
I'm rating this a 7/10 and mixed feelings. For the score, I am not saying this is a "good anime", but I am saying that in the realm of isekai trash that it is "good".
As for mixed feelings, some will hate this due to it being isekai trash, while some will love it for the same reason.
