Review of Blue Period
It's overall a well-told story. I'm particularly partial to stories about characters following their passions. Most anime, particularly shounen, has surface-level passion from characters, like wanting to be heroic or the best and all that good stuff. This at least has more layers than those stories. As for the animation, I can't complain. Well, maybe I can complain and say I would've liked more sequences of the MC "delving" into the zone of making art since that would've added some nice meta surreal elements. The opening song is groovy and the ending song is great. The rest of the OST sounds good and works. I'dsay the characters are the best part of the show. There's only so much that can be done in 12 episodes, and I think the time was well-spent on the MC and his friend. My largest complaint is the way the season ended. It felt very much like ending in the middle of a sentence rather than getting the notion of more finality while alluding to something more like an ellipsis. I very much hope there's a second season.
