I expected a more serious Japanese story from Suzume (like Kimi no na wa), but in the end I got more of a Japanese fairy tale, which had nice characters and an acceptable plot, but lacked a bit of momentum – fortunately and to my surprise, it picked up the pace (at least in terms of feeling) and perhaps even a slightly greater depth/adult level in the second part of the story (just past the halfway point of the film – you can't miss that part) and I actually enjoyed it. Considering that it works well as a "fairy tale" for both younger and olderpeople, I'll squint and give it another 5* – I would especially welcome a faster pace throughout the story and perhaps more music, but otherwise I'm satisfied.
