Yes, I know. Some call this a revenge story. However, I have seen other revenge stories. I am acquainted with the work of Alexandre Dumas' Le Comte de Monte Cristo. I have also seen Code Geass. In many other works I've seen, the concept of revenge have also been explored over and over, including but not exclusive to: Gundam 00, Seed, Origin (Char's backstory) etc. Revenge can be a serious topic of discussion or exploration. In the hands of masterful writers, it can be a brilliant motive to set into motion a spectacular narrative. However, Redo of Healer is neither a spectacular nor artful narrative, nora show that even remotely tries to explore the concept.

At a glance, the visuals for this show aren't really bad. They aren't stellar, this is no unlimited budget works, but they are ok. The sound is about this range as well - no top tier composers, nothing spectacular or catchy, but not much to complain about either.

What really fails in this show, however, are sadly where it really matters most.

Off the bat, we got characters that are... never mind tropes of fiction, more more like tropes of your average hentai in an MMORPG fantasy setting. They got a face, a voice, a personality type... and that's really about it.

The protagonist has some bullshit rape experience with every fetish you can find on a porn site as backstory and decides he will rape everything in the world as "revenge". He's simply on a rampage to rape people who raped him first. He's effectively flat as a character. He has a name, a face, a personality and a past, but does not grow nor introspect like (remotely) real people do.

As for the support cast, somehow they are almost all female unless they aren't important. None of the girls have any sense of decency and are pretty much just willing to have sex with him willy-nillly or for trivial reasons. Two of them are conveniently brainwashed. One of them decided instead of being a free woman or even a regular slave, she will be a sex slave. Another one got told a story and instantly believes everything she is told in a world where magic exists and thus magical brainwashing exists and decides to just let the MC make her a member of his harem.

The people he wants revenge on are even worse, most of them don't even have a past and do not come off as anything other than an object to take "revenge" upon. As villains, they are literally as corny as they can get. They just exist to do bad things without any believable motive or reasoning beyond being evil.

As for the story, this show did have some semblance of one around the first 2 episodes. Despite the non-existent characterization, there was something going on in some direction. However, this quickly dissipates in that by episode 2, the initial revenge is achieved. What is left is random meandering to collect harem girls to join the harem. Truly, after the first two episodes, you can skip around, find the sex scenes and just be done with it. There is about 1 total episode in this whole show that had very little sex shown.

In summary, as a hentai, this show would have had too much explanation for what was going on. As a regular anime, this show has almost no story to tell and effectively no characterization.

Art: 5 - Sound: 5 - Characterization: 1 - Story: 2
