Review of Nisekoi: False Love
"There you go again with your clichés..." Man, Nisekoi. I finally got around to finishing it after starting it a month ago. Well, this show is best mediocre show I've seen. As literally every review on this show has stated in every paragraph (sometimes every sentence), this show is incredibly unoriginal. It's filled with every cliché, from the Tsundere, promises in the past, it kind of gets silly how many there are. But does that make this show bad? No, no it doesn't. This show is a key. It is a key to a little thing we can call pure enjoyment. The story is the worst aspectof this show. I gave it a six just due to how mediocre it is. It is a harem after all.
What really stands out in this show is the effort that shaft put into animating this. Out of all the works shaft has put out, this seems to be the least shafty shaft (you can still tell very obviously its shaft). From beautiful visuals to unrealistic faces, they really put some heart into this show. I'm only giving this a nine mainly due to the fact this is a shaft animation, but it's also has some of the best animation I've seen shaft put out.
I loved the soundtrack to this show. From its op's (which aren't the best and are bland) to the fire ed's and ost. I think the ost is where it really stands out. It can really compliment a scene, like when someone gets embarrassed and some chaotic music starts playing. Nisekoi knows what compliments there scenes.
Now, for how generic the characters are, (some simply just being different forms of -dere), they all have their own little bit of life to them. I think that Ichijou is an ok mc. He can be very funny at times. He has his own flesh out personality and goals. However, this can't distract me from the fact of how much of a fucking idiot he is. He really doesn't understand that the girls basically like him (even though they literally stumble on their words, turning red, to the point it's so obvious that you think Ichijou is braindead. The girls are all great except for the third one. She's kind of useless, they could have never had added her and I think it would've been better. However without her we wouldn't some great comedic scenes. Best girl definitely goes to Chitoge. Not only is she the most fleshed out female character, but also because of her coming to term with the love she has inside her.
Watching Nisekoi is a very thrilling and enjoyable experience. It's got great visuals, generic yet brilliant characters, and it's own unique feel.
Now it sounds like I'm just talking about how good the show is. So I'm going to give my reasons on why it's bad. The ending is very anticlimactic. It build's up to not even give us the one answer we wanted. It's generic (yes, im saying this again). Every character is a copy paste. The sheer amount of cliches can really deter you from watching this show. Sometimes there are inconsistencies with the characters in order to force development. The story transforms into a harem (it should've just been Chitoge and Onodera as the main love interests with Tsugumi as a comedic love interest). The introduction of the third girl just plain isn't needed. I don't give a shit about her. The story could've been better if it wasn't transformed from a mild harem into a full blown harem. The comedy is cliché as as well with many of the usual scenes like misunderstandings and such. After a while as well, the comedy sort of becomes rinse and repeat.
Overall, Nisekoi should be watched as a harem romcom. The issues with the show are just my opinion and you could have a totally different view for the show. Well, this concluded my first ever mal review.
