Review of Kyousougiga
Kyousogiga is a family drama that juxtaposes Buddhist folklore and mythology with a colorful, urban fantasy setting. The resulting world is similar to Uchouten Kazoku's, though Kyousogiga is much louder and more action-oriented. It tells a non-linear story of an unusual family whose children live in a state of arrested development--both literally and figuratively--due to abandonment by their parents, and the ways in which they cope with their purposeless lives. It takes a chaotic, un-self-aware youth stumbling into their home to break them out of their stupor, and shake up the hermetic fantasy city that they live in. Ultimately, Kyousogiga's message is a little tooham-fisted, and its emotional conclusion is a bit over the top, but the ride there is thoroughly enjoyable thanks to explosive action sequences and visually inventive character designs. It's also a good reminder that life moves on, whether you want it to or not.
