Review of The Wind Rises
The movie The Wind Rises is an interesting movie that shows a different perspective of a tragedy in history. The Fifteen Years War in Japan and the Great Kanto Earthquake is described in the movie, and the audience can see how the country was destroyed due to the events that took place. Although the movie incorporates the war, the fighting scenes of the war are not shown, but the movie describes the life of an airplane designer. I was surprised how the war is not the main focus but Jirou’s passion for airplanes and his desire to create his dream airplane was the mainfocus of the whole movie. I think the main factor that made the movie fascinating was the different airplanes and how detailed every scene was. The earthquake scene was extremely realistic, and the sounds of the ground shaking actually sounding like the rocks clicking with each other. The movie incorporated how the parts of Japan started to become developed after the earthquake, and how the different events were able to change society as a whole. The movie allowed the audience to follow Jirou’s life and see how Jirou grew up from a child to a grown man. Overall, the movie’s detailed drawings of the setting and the connection with history were my favorite parts.
