Review of A Place Further Than The Universe
Lets be honest here, when we were in high school, there was a time we told ourselves we wanted to do something out of the ordinary, something amazing. When I first heard of this anime, all I thought was this was some documentary about Antarctica but what I actually in the end was a lot more meaningful than that. If there is one thing I can say about this anime, this isn't a slice of life, instead it's a slice of an amazing adventure featuring a bunch of high school girls doing not cute things but amazing things. The only things I can complain about isthe animation and the sound design. They aren't bad by all means but compared to more modern animes I think they could've been slightly better. Animation was wonderfully done but not perfect. It's not bad, it's just a bit lacking when compared to the other more wonderfully animated animes this year(Violet Evergarden). However, compared to a lot of animes this year, this is still leagues above other animation studios.
Another thing is that although it featured some amazing soundtracks (and even my one of my favorite op and ed), it was still a bit weak when compared to something like Violet Evergarden or even Bunny girl. It's more of a nitpick I know but the could've done a bit more to add to the scene sometimes.
In short, if I had a choice to hand best anime of 2018, it would be this anime. Even though Violet Evergarden had a lot of the same attributes that this anime had and even done it better in most ways and Bunny Girl was a fantastic watch, this anime stood out the most for me this year and it's not for the animation or anything but because it was just an enjoyable anime to watch.
