This is an anime with very charming character design, beautiful scenery, and fluid animation. It stands out among its peers that came out in the same year, and other anime adapting western works that came out before. The story follows the books by Jules Verne relatively loosely, introducing several new characters, and adding musical numbers and comedic elements, which convey a jovial and family friendly tone. I recommend watching this anime to the end, as the last couple of episodes are fantastic, and charged with amazing suspense and emotion. A word on music and the dub: If you intend to watch this anime in Japanese, you'll find that the opening and several of the musical numbers don't match the lip flaps in the animation. If you switch to the Spanish dub, new music will replace the opening song, which will match what's on screen. This is because, while this anime was animated in Japan, it was produced for Spain, and Japan decided to change the songs. The English dub follows the Spanish one, but if you can speak Spanish, the Spanish dub is probably better than it.
