Review of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

JJK's second season comprised of some back story and the Shibuya arc. It was action packed, emotional, but also really brought some of Akutami's writing flaws to the forefront of the story. I liked that we got to know Gojo more. I liked that we got to meet characters that influenced how things came together before the first season. I liked how we gained a deeper understanding into characters we already know fairly well. I also liked the action sequences and that the Shibuya arc did not pull its punches. One thing I wish that the anime had changed as how it handles Akutami's infodump text in the manga. I understand wanting to preserve the look and feel of the manga, but I think there must be a better way to communicate this information in a way that doesn't feel sluggish or like walls of text. Another flaw that plagued the second season is how Akutami writes female characters at times. There was a moment in the Shibuya arc that lost a lot of its potential impact because of this flaw. I'm not sure how the anime could have avoided this particular pitfall, so it was just an inevitable blip.

That said, I don't regret watching the second season. I went into it knowing its potential flaws and also the big ticket moments I wanted to see. I'm going to watch the next installment of the anime too even though there are sections to come that I'm not looking forward to due to Akutami's weaknesses with writing the story itself.

If you enjoyed season 1 you should give season 2 a watch. The problems in season 2 are similar to the problems in season 1 but affect some of the big ticket items of season 2 moreso than it did with season 1. That said, it's possible the pacing and the plot points might not jive with some people so I can't say I 100% recommend it.
