🌟 The True Finale: To LOVE-Ru Darkness 2nd Specials Review 🌟 Score: 10/10 (Masterpiece) Warning: Major Spoilers for both Darkness seasons and the specials follow! The To LOVE-Ru Darkness 2nd Specials are absolutely essential viewing for anyone who loves the Darkness saga. They are not merely OVAs; they represent the 100% Full Story continuation and emotional payoff the main TV series built toward. If you watched the TV run and stopped, you missed the true epilogue. Why 10/10? (The Core Truth) These specials (and the OVAs associated with them) cement the core themes of the series and deepen the emotional bonds of the characters. While the humor and "trouble" arepresent, the true value lies in the Past, Present, and Future narrative resolution:
The Past/The Truth: The climax of the TV season saw Yami enter the destructive Darkness transformation, driven by the entity Nemesis and the stress of her bio-weapon origins (created by Dr. Tearju Lunatique). The specials show the characters processing this. They reinforce the Truth that Yami (Eve) is no longer a weapon, thanks to Rito’s unique, selfless empathy that can reach even a world-destroying Darkness form.
The Present: They solidify the new status quo. Following the emotional rescue where Rito risked everything to embrace and anchor Darkness-Yami, the romantic tension—especially involving Momo's Harem Plan and Yami's burgeoning human emotions—is heightened and accepted by the entire cast.
The Future: While Nemesis is only temporarily defeated (setting up a potential Sequel Hook), the specials function as a final, satisfying epilogue. They show the girls fully committing to their chaotic, yet stable, love for Rito, closing out the main arc with warmth and high-quality production.
My Recommendation
I highly recommend these specials. They are the logical and necessary conclusion to the Darkness 2nd TV run.
Chronological Viewers: Remember to watch them in the correct Story Timeline order—especially the episodes often labeled 13 and 14, as they are a direct sequel to Episode 12. If you want the full experience, watch all the OVAs afterward.
It's a beautiful transition from a story about a weapon finding her humanity to a final, hilarious, and heartwarming confirmation of a love that truly is the strongest force in the galaxy. Don't skip them!
