Review of High School DxD
Personally, I loved the anime and the light novels which I still need to finish. The anime has a beautiful story hidden beneath all of the cleavage and tits that a lot of people don't see because they focus on how ecchi it is. I personally prefer to watch this show censored because a) its easier to explain to people, and b) the tits sort of draw from the story. Now, as far as that story goes, it is definitely one of my favorites. It feels to me as if it is a perverted representation of Milton's Paradise Lost which is one of the greatestclassics ever written and one that I believe deserves the name "classic". The anime and light novels each also draw upon a great number of other myths and mythologies, which for me was a reason that I fell in love with this show. I greatly love the depictions of mythological characters in this anime and how they fit into the show. The only regretable thing that I don't really like about Highschool DxD is its incredibly powerful anti-religious message. Though I am not a die-hard Christian, this factor makes it impossible for me to recommend this anime to any of my religious friends. It is easy for me to get past and I did not let it factor into my review since I presume most people truly won't care.
The characters are incredibly funny and the show, on the surface, is really lighthearted. However, as you dive deeper, you find this deeply rooted psychological experience manifesting itself within each of the characters within the show. Each character has a tragic past that makes them broken and each of those experiences is what drives their relationships with the other characters. Each character feels unique to me and I love each and every one of them. Even the bad guys are all pretty cool even though they are douches that you quickly learn to hate
As far as the soundtrack goes, I really like this soundtrack. The opening is one of my favorites and the ending makes me laugh every time I see it. I do like the OSTs as well, though against anime such as Attack on Titan, Campione!, and Guilty Crown, it doesn't stand out that much. As such, it lost one point for me there.
In light of all that, I'd still say that it is a great anime despite what others have to say and it will always be one of my favorites. I love the art and I love the characters. The story is deep if you actually look for and pay attention to it. Personally, I feel aggravated whenever anyone says that this show is just tits because its just not the case. It is one of the best Harem genre anime that has earned its high spot on my list.
