Makoto Shinkai is my favourite director and his works (especially 5cm/s and voices of a distant star) are some of my favourites. I was expecting a lot from his newest film, but Hoshi wo ou Kodomo was a disappointment. The plot and characters are formulaic and stale. It is far from a bad movie, but I was expecting so much more.
