Review of Gintama
(This is a spoilerless review encapsulating Gintama as a whole, rather than just the first season) I should start by saying, as uncommon as it may be, Gintama was the first anime I'd ever watched, back in 2014, after being begged to watch it by a friend multiple times over and over. I was one of those people who disliked anime with a passion, and even thought people who watch anime were weird. But oh how the tables have turned... I'd just like to stress the fact that someone like me, who again, disliked anime with a passion, knew nothing about anime and nor got any ofthe references, still enjoyed the show and still see it as my #1 favourite serialisation to this day, shows that you don't need to have watched much anime/know much to enjoy gintama.

Gintama is very unique and unlike anything else I've seen, even to this day. The perfect balance between comedy and laughs, and action and story. It's safe to say gintama has a little bit of everything and it's executed perfectly.
The development of characters over time and their bonding is a beautiful thing to watch and you can tell Sorachi really popped off with gintama (Hideaki Sorachi is the manga author of gintama)
I'd also like to spotlight Sakata Gintoki as a character too. His drive to protect the things he finds precious and those closest to him branches off from his backstory (which gets a bit spoilery so I'll avoid going into any more detail)
This show will always have a way to make you laugh, sometimes even in some of the most serious of situations, making it an absolute joy to watch and never disappoints.
I love pretty much all openings, endings and basically the entire soundtrack which always blends with the mood of certain moments, arcs and episodes.

There's only so much I can say in a spoilerless review and I doubt anyone is here to hear me nerd out about gintama, but trust me when I say this, you WILL love gintama if you finish it to the end. There's also a final movie coming soon which I'm super hyped for!!
To conclude the review, I highly recommend giving Gintama a shot. The number of episodes may be intimidating, but with how gintama is structured, arcs tend to be 2-5 episodes max and never exceed that.
Gintama is my #1 favourite since the very beginning of my bottomless decent into anime and manga and I hope it can be yours too! :)
