This review is simple and anecdotal. I first watched Haibane Renmei a long time ago and my first exposure to it was from good old Grumpy Jii-san, a YouTuber who disappeared 12 years ago. Whenever I've felt despair or anxiety, Haibane Renmei has proven to be one of the greatest remedies to my emotions. Of all the anime that I consider to be iyashikei, Haibane Renmei is the best of the lot. I have so often and easily felt prompted to watch it that I've seen atleast episode 1 many times over, but during a re-watch I often finish it as well. With an innocent and carefree maincharacter serving us with a very calm and pleasant introductory arc, the story then turns its focus to a stoic character who is stuck in a tragic paradox. She grows close to the aforementioned character. I suppose it's a bit like MadoMagi in that sense, although MadoMagi is grim throughout.
