Review of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

So I'm going to write this in two parts: as someone who has played the game and as someone who hasn't played the game. As someone who has played (and loves) the game: this movie murdered the characters. This movie is the reason Cloud now has the reputation of being a whiny wimp. You really don't get that impression of him in the game. This movie really didn't need to be made and it makes me angry. It's a vanity project. The story itself isn't actually bad but it just doesn't need to exist. Rant over. So as someone who hasn't played the game, the story wouldbe kind of confusing but it's gorgeous, the music and sound in general is great and most importantly, it's just fun to watch. The battles are very well choreographed.

Overall, I would still recommend this to both fans of the game and people who haven't played the game, the caveat being that if you're a fan of the game, there's a good chance you won't like how the characters (especially Cloud) are portrayed in this movie, and if you haven't played the game, you're going to be kind of lost. But it's still really fun to watch.
