Anachronistic, hilarious, and action packed. Samurai Champloo doesn't let itself fall into the modern anime tropes that many shows fall into. As amazing as the show is, the characters tend towards being "one-note." When the character is acting out of their normal wheelhouse, it can be refreshing, hilarious, and sweet. The art style maintains its quality and refuses to fall back to CGI. The sound is superb. The music, style, comedy, and phrases set itself as being anachronistic—belonging to a period other than that being portrayed—modern jokes, Mugen pretending to be an airplane as he chases after a woman, shake weights, and beatboxing. Outstanding.
