Even though I've only seen 1/3 of the season, this anime will never fail to keep me smiling thanks to the doubled amount of sweetness. Make sure to have a ton of insulin shots ready, so you don't succumb to type-2 diabetes again. Continuing from where S1 left off, this season will explore the dynamics between Amane and Mahiru now that they're officially a couple. There is some awkwardness between them since they already did a lot of things a couple would do before they started dating, despite this, they slowly and surely adapt to their newfound relationship and make it official to the public. It'sgreat to see them receive some character development as well; Amane being more confident and assertive, and Mahiru doesn't have to act like the angel anymore. They can be honest with their feelings and no longer have to hide anything from their peers, and there won't be any relationship drama or love triangle at all. I really enjoy the romance and their tenderness so far, but I hope the story won't get stale as other important plot points need to be explored/solved going forward. They can do that by introducing more supporting characters to spice up the plot a bit, but a confrontation with Mahiru's parents seems inevitable.
S2 is a lot better production-wise. The animation looks smoother, the lightning is brighter, and the visuals are much warmer. There are mixed reactions about the chibi scenes, but I think they are meant to make the show lively. S1 was enjoyable and comfortable to watch, but it's severely lacking in animation. Although I wished for a better studio to animate S2, the overall quality is noticeably better, and I'd be disappointed if everything got even worse than S1's stiff animation in the second half. This could explain why they took 3 years to release S2 when studio project No.9 was struggling with multiple works in 2023-2024; better late than releasing a lackluster product.
And finally, you can expect both Amane and Mahiru to be a happy and harmonious couple in this season. There are some obstacles, but these are when they face together, not when they are against each other. If there's one thing you can always count on with this series, it's that the romance side of things is pure and heartwarming. I really hope we can get more post-confession romance stories like this in the future.
Thank you for reading.
