Surprisingly I’ve enjoyed this one more than the main story. The episodical format fits the world more and thanks to it my main complaint for the main series, the lack of worldbuilding explanation, is dodged. That is because you don’t expect much lore explanations from short stories, so you can just roll with it. You can even completely ignore which characters is who, just label them mentally as Person A, Person B etc. and the story still works out, so that’s nice if you don’t really care about the main series. So what is the actual content about? Basically, imagine The X-Files but in ancientChina. You get a case connected to supernatural and the characters try to find the „culprit“. My favourite is the first one as it really is written like a proper mystery, giving the reader clues and so on.
So yeah, those side stories are actually worth to read.
