Sayonara O-Tamaru chan, ethanol flan : Out of money and jobless, i was looking for some good books wandering in my local library. In the corner of my eye appeared Peleliu : Guernica of Paradise by Kazuyoshi Takeda. I first though about reading it because it looked cute but waited until a few months later because i had just figured out i would read Sayonara O-Tama chan from the same author (Spoiler : Both of the mangas are really good). Fast forward a few months, i gave it a go, and it's a BANGER. Now, why you should (maybe, i promise i won't be mad) tryit :

- Nice cast : i feel like Takeda tried to gather all the archetypes you could find in a "war environnement" ; in a way where you could find yourself as one of those soldiers. You have "cowards", "heroes", almost psychopath but in a way the perfect soldiers. Some of them are lovely (Izumi, Yoshiki, Tamaru, Kosugi), some others are DEVILS (no spoilers

- The art is really sweeeeeet : like i said, cute but god sometimes things go south. Takeda wants to depict this war in the most "raw" way, well here you go, in this manga you'll find all the titsy horrors war can and will offer.

- As a note, i still think Takeda had to make some kind of Compromise to make sure the story would still be in a way historically accurate and not to dramatic. Like you aren't going to see some epic aura moments where idk a characters kills all the ennemies in a spray of courage and patriotism. I would say that's the point : Takeda wants to show war not as this glorious existence but more ridiculous, ABSURD. People mostly don't die in a heroic way, they starve, are burned alive, die of illness.

- For those who already read Sayonara O-Tama chan, i feel like Takeda included some references. From small gags to character designs, cool details.

Hmm, it's a good manga, it made me cry a few times because some of the characters are just so miserable (i'm not mocking them). Some of them had a bad life before the war and the few happy months they had were during HELL. But like always, there are always HOPE AND DREAMS (lol). Loved it and you could love it, you would only need to read the 11 volumes ; such a small cost...
Also Yoshiki is the goat.
