Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

I don’t know why it took me so long to watch this masterpiece. I used to think Frieren was just another overhyped, basic adventure anime — but it’s so much more than that. In fact, the focus isn’t really on the adventure at all; it’s about human connections, and above all, it’s an anime about time and how it affects each person differently. I completely fell in love with it — I basically watched the whole thing in a single day lol. The characters are excellent, and the way their relationships are built is fantastic. Of course, Frieren stands out the most, but even the characterswho barely appear are well-developed, no matter how simple they are. And in terms of storytelling, I think it’s brilliant. It breaks away from the usual formula of anime with a similar theme — like I said before, it’s much more than an adventure anime. I’d even say the adventure takes a back seat. It’s not an anime for everyone; it’s actually pretty slow-paced, but it’s incredibly captivating.

I’m really looking forward to the second season, and I can’t wait for next winter to arrive — though it’s a shame I’ll have to watch it weekly.
