Review of The King's Avatar
Do you like an Overpowered MC? Probably too much, really. Do you want a story about a character going on a "journey" and collecting friends along the way? Sure, that's pretty standard. Do you want all the characters to be 1-dimensional to the point that its rather strange, like 1 is "the loud one" or "the even louder one" or just "a girl"? Wait, what. Do you want a story that is essentially "Man plays video game for fun, because he got fired from playing the game professionally"? Not if that's it, no. Then have I got the over-rated anime for you, now with 100% morepsuedo-McDonalds product placement, and 20% less budget for different animations.
The show is not Bad by any means, but if you aren't going to have a plot with any sort of complexity, then you need to put that effort into something else the viewer can care about. I think about a couple other Overpowered MC animes and how this one can't hold a candle to them:
Overlord - MC never in trouble, sure, but in a continent-wide world of political strife, trying to create his own empire, surrounded by literally-insane side characters with fun writing.
Youjo Senki - MC only sometimes in danger, but wrapped in a premise about alternate-WW2 magic squads lead by a maniacal 12 year old with a grudge against literal God.
So you can do the whole: Overpowered MC Is Better Than Everyone, but if I don't care about the other characters, there's no complex plot happening in the background, and the MC himself is a wet noodle of charisma, then why should I care about the show? Cuz I don't. It gets by on fun action and acceptable writing, but how this show got rated so high is beyond me.
