Review of The Wind Rises
The Wind Rises is infact my favorite anime movie of all time, so my review is probably a bit biased. I really enjoyed the setting and the depth of the characters, and it shined a little bit of semi-fictionalized light on the actual person that was Jiro Horikoshi, a truly genius designer of aircraft. I really enjoyed the story and the pacing, and it went through a good chunk of the "important" parts of Jiro's life, but of course fictionalized as is to be expected. The scenes were well done and beautifully orchestrated. The art and sound weren't perfect, but they were absolutely beautiful and reallypainted the portrait they were meant to show, defining old Japan well, and infact I found the earthquake scene to be insanely well done animation-wise, like, it just really blew my mind and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Truly brilliant.
Characters themselves were quite excellent, no cliches that I could really see and they had a good sense of depth and originality to them, which makes sense as some of them were indeed based on real people. The host of characters breathed further life into the already-amazing story and truly brought it to life.
You'll definitely be in for an emotionally fueled ride if you decide to watch it, whether it be subbed or dubbed, I found both to be rather excellent and you absoloutely won't regret it. A true masterpiece.
