Review of Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online

tl;dr Don't watch it. Edgy, cringe yuri story about self-acceptance and how hard it is to be a yuri with background plot b about how hard it is to be rich and have brother-complex, both told 50/50 in slice-of-life and virtual reality shooter game. Personally, I found the story being highly unattractive. I suppose as majority of viewers I were lured into viewing this abhorrent series by armament and military art posters and name recognition behind Sword Art Online. Were story to be told with no virtual reality aspect, but as a regular slice-of-life, young adult coming to terms school-life story it would havebeen enjoyable. But as series have been produced as of now, dissonance between lighthearted story and at times serious animation in virtual reality leaves behind terrible aftertaste.

Conclusion: below average. Either go over the to and add extreme comedy, akin to Arakawa under the bridge, the hidden dungeon that only i can enter. Or choose a style and stick to it. Can't imagine such confusing mess being highly profitable.
