Review of Frieren: Beyond Journey's End
The anime starts strong with a unique, almost melancholic vibe that captivates and sets it apart from others. The first few episodes build a promising atmosphere, allowing viewers to overlook the lack of character depth. However, once the exam arc kicks in, it loses its charm. The pacing and tone shift dramatically, relying heavily on overused anime tropes. The exam arc feels unnecessary and stretched out, introducing a slew of generic characters. As the series progresses, it loses the originality that made the first half intriguing. Characters become more one-dimensional, and the show loses direction, leaving predictability in its wake. The ending feels like a chore, with little emotional investment to be had.
While the first half may be worth watching for those seeking a fresh vibe, the second half feels like a missed opportunity. It's an okay watch if you're simply looking for something to pass the time, but it doesn't live up to the hype or differentiate itself from other typical shonen anime.
Vastly overhyped, doesn't deserve the #1 spot it currently holds.
